Research Programs, Research Strengths and Activities of the CHPCA
The detailed nature of the research programs undertaken within the Centre and
between members of the Centre and its partner organizations is continuously
evolving. However, the activities of the Centre fall within the general terms
described in the Centre's mission and aims statement. It includes for
example:
- lattice gauge theory: studies of the strong interaction (theoretical nuclear
and particle physics) in collaboration with partners at the CSSM.
- space environment research: in collaboration with partners at WISER.
- theoretical physics: astrophysics, atomic and molecular physics, optics,
condensed matter physics, etc.
- continuum fluid dynamics: water resource management, salinity, reservoir
modelling, petroleum engineering, naval and aerodynamic design, weather
forecasting and ocean studies.
- geology and geophysics: modelling of earthquakes, seismic activity and
seismic testing.
- computational chemistry: electronic structure of molecules, force field
molecular dynamics.
- bioinformatics and biological applications: including applications to
plant science, DNA sequencing, molecular biology, environmental biology,
modeling of heart and brain, etc.
- optimization problems: the use of parallelism to give very cost
effective multi-parameter searches for optimizing telecommunications, water,
power, gas, and oil distribution.
- visualization: advanced visualization and virtual reality facilities;
software for visualization of scientific data sets and simulations.
- economics: data mining of business information, stock market analysis, and
econophysics.
